Where do you buy all of your clothes? Does the station supply your wardrobe? How many dresses do you own?
I get these types of questions a lot working in TV news. It’s a visual medium, so appearance and wardrobe is important. When you’re on TV 5 days a week you also want to try to switch it up, but buying new clothes all the time can get expensive!
Some stations do provide money towards a wardrobe allowance, but that’s not the norm at every station so you need to get find ways to look stylish and professional on a budget.
I buy my clothes from a variety of places. Some stores I like to shop at for dresses to wear on the air include places Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, Francesca’s, New York & Company, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. But I also do quite a bit of online shopping through Amazon!
You’ve probably heard of the famous ‘TV dress’ that went viral. (I own it too, in blue!)
I own several dresses from Amazon! There are so many different colors and styles to choose from, and they are inexpensive! I’ve been able to purchase 4-5 new dresses for about $100. You can’t really beat the price, and you’re getting more bang for your buck with several new dresses. Of course though you get what you pay for. I’ve found that some brands are better than others.
