Greek Independence Day

A couple weeks ago, I celebrated Greek Independence Day back home in Massachusetts with my family. Greek Independence Day is celebrated annually on March 25th. It commemorates the start of the War of Greek Independence in 1821.

The picture above was taken at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, Massachusetts. It’s the church I was baptized in that I’ve gone to my whole life. The young man giving a speech in this picture is my little brother Valantis! He wrote a whole speech about Greek independence both in Greek and in English.

It’s an annual tradition for the Greek school at the church to put on a play to celebrate Greek Independence day. They sing Greek songs, Greek dance and wear traditional Greek costumes. I also went to Greek school and grew up with these traditions!
